Twenty years after GIC's inception, a new monolith stood tall in Singapore's bustling financial district, Capital Tower. On 22 May 2001, this became the new headquarters of GIC. In a 20th anniversary celebration, the GIC Head Office was opened officially by Senior Minister and GIC Chairman, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
During the celebration, it was noted that the institution's role and capabilities had grown to encompass a greater breadth and depth. GIC's investments had spread over more than 40 countries including developed nations and emerging markets. Its team included over 200 international and local investment talent.
GIC was now placing out a larger proportion of funds to external fund managers. GIC was also helping to develop the local fund management industry. But most of all, it remained focused on its foundation vision, to protect and grow Singapore's reserves by being a world-class global investment management company, with the kind of skills, systems and resilience to meet the challenges of investing globally.
