  Vice President
GIC Special Investments
(Asia Private Equity Group)
Beijing Office

Why did you join GIC?
The job in GIC provided me with more opportunities to be involved in various industries, ranging from commodity to consumer goods, from traditional to the high-tech industries. Furthermore, being a private equity investor, we are much more deeply involved in investee companies' business e.g. we discuss with senior management the company's strategy; we leverage GIC's global network to identify new business opportunities for investees; we represent GIC to attend board meetings and shareholders meetings.

What duties do you carry out within a typical day/week?

GIC SI gives me the opportunities and exposure to the full value chain of private equity investing. I source private equity investment opportunities in Greater China through proactive marketing and networking, and performing qualitative and quantitative evaluation on potential investment opportunities. I also structure and negotiate effective investment structure and terms, and perform post-investment management activities of existing portfolio companies. In addition, I perform specific country & industry research, private equity market survey and other activities relating to GIC SI's business.

What gives you most enjoyment in the work you do?
Successfully identifying a target company, investing in it, and growing with the company and management even if there are growing pains.

Tell us about the working environment.
We have just moved to a new office which is spacious and well organized. My colleagues in GIC SI are proactive, professional and always willing to help.

Tell us about your social life, interests and hobbies.
I like to learn new things, meet with new and old friends and visit new places. I go to the gym regularly for running or yoga. I go hiking and skiing with my friends when I'm free on weekends.

What do you read?
Regular business reading includes the Wall Street Journal, the South China Morning Post, the Financial Times and various local newspapers, magazines and financial portals. When on a flight or before I go to sleep, I will choose to read some Chinese or English best sellers.
