10 July 2015, Singapore – GIC’s Chifley Tower in Sydney, Australia, has won the Performance Award for 2015 by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). The global award recognises the environmental performance of a building or development with the least environmental impact.
Since 2009, GIC has worked to introduce energy efficiencies which resulted in significant energy savings for Chifley Tower. The sustainability measures have resulted in a greater than 55% reduction in both Chifley Tower’s electricity consumption and Green House gas emissions, as compared to the base year of 2008. Features introduced included the installation of a high-efficiency centralised chilled water plant to replace more than 80 inefficient smaller units, introduction of zoning to the on-floor air-conditioning ductwork, major upgrades to the Building Automation System, replacement of all building lifts with modern high-efficiency units and car park mechanical ventilation upgrades.
Kwok Wai Keong, Co-Head, Asia and Global Head, Asset Management of GIC Real Estate, said, “GIC places great importance on enhancing the value of our assets and ensuring that they meet sustainability standards. Over the years, we have been progressively taking measures to reduce the carbon footprint in our buildings. Chifley Towers is a reflection of our ongoing efforts.”
