Investing for long-term returns is a key competitive advantage for GIC among large global investors. Successful investing, especially for a large portfolio, requires a suitably long-term horizon because economic and corporate changes often unfold across market cycles and not within a market cycle. Moreover, the investor has to invest earlier before such changes are widely recognised by investors and hence discounted in market prices. This feature article discusses the long-term investing approach and how it is practised in GIC.
