The Majurity Thrust Thriving Communities Initiative

GIC partners The Majurity Trust on the Thriving Communities Initiative (TCI)—a place-based philanthropic approach to build thriving and connected communities.

As part of this partnership, GIC funds the Thriving Communities Fund (TCF) and invests in capability-building across the sector, enabling learnings to be shared and amplified for greater impact.

    How it works

TCI nurtures local leadership and empowers residents to design and lead initiatives with their community, for their community. This approach is currently piloted in Chong Pang, a neighbourhood in Singapore.

The TCF is a grant for residents to implement ground-up solutions to address unseen or unmet needs in their neighbourhood. GIC employees help develop these projects and serve as volunteers when residents implement them.

    Impact on the community

Since April 2025, three grants have been awarded under the TCF, and over 100 community and sector leaders have convened to exchange learnings and ideas about place-based solutions and community development approaches.

“Project Pencil started with no knowledge or funds, just a passion to make life more meaningful for our neighbours. Over the years, we’ve seen good results and feedback, but support was always hard to come by. The funding and support from this programme means a lot to us as it gives us credibility, access to wider networks, and helps us reach more people in the community.”

“The engagement sessions helped us put into words the practice we're currently doing (which was affirming) and also pushed us to think about how we can do community-building better for our specific community.”
