    Who We Are

    Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is guided by our PRIME values, which serve as our compass – Prudence, Respect, Integrity, Merit, and Excellence. The way we work is founded on Respect for one another, and Merit ensures our people management policies are equitable and fair for all. This enables us to build a GIC community where we can be our authentic selves and where our contributions are recognised and aligned with corporate goals.

    Our Beliefs

The way we work is founded deeply on respect for one another and a clear sense of purpose.

Making inclusion explicit signals to GICians internally and our international community that we can bring diversity of talent and thoughts – our whole selves – to GIC, as we all strive to invest well for Singapore. An inclusive environment yields exceptional contribution. When diverse teams feel included, we build shared belonging to one another and to GIC.

Crucially, even as we strive to reach out to less represented talent pools, we hire based on meritocracy and performance, and this is never compromised. To us, DEI is not about affirmative action. Our DEI recruitment programmes enable us to tap into larger talent pools, but candidates under these programmes undergo the same selection assessments to ensure best fit for the job.

We acknowledge that DEI is a continuous journey and are committed to improving in this space.

    Our Approach

Our approach to DEI is consistent and principles-led, anchored in three pillars: embracing diversity across multiple dimensions by cultivating a global and diverse talent pool; ensuring fairness for all regardless of backgrounds in an equitable workplace; and enabling GICians to be at their best through inclusive practices.

Diverse Talent Pool: Embracing Diversity Across Multiple Dimensions

As an employer, we firmly believe every individual brings with them unique diversity of thought and perspectives to meaningfully enrich perspectives of GIC teams to drive competitive performance. As an investor, we believe that diversity is a hallmark of good corporate governance, and a key consideration we include in investment due diligence to drive long-term shareholder value.

Equitable Workplace: Ensuring Fairness for All Regardless of Backgrounds

We implement merit-based practices and people management policies across dimensions such as compensation, performance, conduct, and progression. We are committed to conducting proactive self-checks on our internal processes and outcomes to ensure we are building an equitable workplace for all GICians.

Inclusive Practices: Enabling GICians To Be At Their Best

We believe an inclusive environment will yield exceptional contributions and instill a sense of belonging, by actively inviting participation and contribution from all. We seek to build an inclusive culture via both top-down and bottom-up initiatives, from designing our diverse range of employee benefits with inclusivity in mind, to organising GIC-wide celebratory and learning initiatives for DEI globally. We recognise that every GICian has a part to play in this continuous journey towards greater inclusivity.

“As investors, we must not only recognise the impact of DEI but also translate it to action. In practice, it means adopting DEI as a business imperative for long-term success. This is critical to how we attract and retain top talent for performance, and build our brand and industry standing.”

    Deanna Ong,
    Chief People Officer, GIC

    Our Practices

    Harness diversity for performance

    • GIC is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity for organisational performance.  We do not discriminate based on factors such as ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
    • Recognising the diverse needs of our people, we regularly review our employee benefits, designed to enable our people to be at their best. We promote wellness and appreciate that our people have important roles outside of work.
    • We proactively source for a balanced candidate slate and work with industry partners to improve gender representation across our roles, ensuring that our job descriptions reflect inclusive values to attract the best talent for GIC.

    Promote an equitable workplace

    • As part of our annual talent review and reporting, our Human Resource teams closely monitor and track data to call out anomalies or biases that may be impacting a fair outcome, holding our leaders and teams accountable.
    • We carry out an annual compensation review to ensure market benchmarks are competitive, and that pay is a fair reward for one’s role and performance.
    • We conduct annual training and refreshers to equip managers with the right resources and mindsets to assess employees fairly and mitigate unconscious bias.

    Foster an inclusive environment

    • Through internal employee surveys and platforms, we maintain open channels for feedback and communication between employees and leaders.
    • Our Dignity At Work policy outlines clear expectations of conduct to ensure our people feel safe and respected.
    • Industry DEI events and conferences allow us to reiterate our commitment to DEI and learn best practices from industry partners.

    CFA DEI Code

On 30 October 2024, GIC hosted the official launch of the CFA Institute DEI Code in Singapore at our headquarters in Capital Tower, jointly organised with the CFA Society Singapore. We were also among the first signatories to the Code, committing to work on the six DEI Code Core Principles: Pipeline, Talent Acquisition, Promotion and Retention, Leadership, Influence, and Measurement. These principles are aligned with our DEI beliefs and ongoing efforts.
