GIC has launched an essay prize to deepen interest and understanding in the areas of finance and investment among undergraduates. The annual essay competition is open to undergraduates studying in Singapore, or Singaporean and Singapore PR undergraduates studying overseas.
At a GIC Staff Conference this morning where the initiative was announced, Deputy Chairman and Executive Director Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam said: “GIC recruits talent globally and we are keen to cultivate interest in our industry. The GIC Essay Prize is our way of engaging young people in what we do – hopefully, they will come to appreciate that the wealth of a nation does not come about by chance.”
The 2,000-word essay competition will be administered by the National University of Singapore’s Centre for Asset Management Research and Investments (CAMRI). Two top prizes, worth S$5,000 and S$2,000, will be given out each year.
The competition inaugurates in August this year with the essay topic, ‘Post-Financial Crisis: Key Lessons, Opportunities and Recommendations for Asia’s Institutional Investors’. Those interested in participating may send an email to gic.essay.prize@nus.edu.sg.
