    Partnership with The Purple Symphony

GIC has been a committed partner of The Purple Symphony (TPS), Singapore’s largest inclusive orchestra comprising musicians with and without disabilities. TPS champions inclusion and unites musicians through their shared love for music.

GIC sponsors TPS’s Training Award Programme and public outreach performances to foster a more inclusive community through music.

    How it works

The Training Award Programme supports persons with disabilities in nurturing their musical talent and building confidence by providing financial grants for professional music lessons and performance opportunities.

The public outreach performances help raise awareness of the capabilities and contributions of musicians with disabilities in the community, furthering inclusion and empowerment.

GIC volunteers also support these musicians by providing accessibility and welfare assistance to help them prepare for their performances.

    Impact on the community

Since 2016, more than 50 musicians with disabilities have participated in the Training Award Programme.

In 2025, The Purple Symphony performed at the Singapore International Festival of Arts and the SG60 National Day Concert, reaching over 40,000 members of the public, with support from GIC volunteers at rehearsals and performances.

“The knowledge I’ve gained from being taught by professionals gives me the confidence to perform in public and go to shows that I never would have thought of attending! On top of that, the annual concerts organised by Central Singapore CDC further strengthened my confidence to perform in front of crowds.”

Nur Anisah Daaniys Binte Muhammad Sufian

The Purple Symphony Training Award Programme Participant

"With GIC’s continued support, aspiring musicians with disabilities will be able to pursue their musical dreams, gaining equal access to learning and performance opportunities. My deepest appreciation to GIC for contributing to the national aspiration of building a more inclusive and vibrant society for all in Singapore."

Spotlight: The Purple Symphony performs soundtrack for GIC’s first animated film

In 2023, The Purple Symphony was invited to record a track for GIC’s first animated film, “Bold Sees the Bigger Picture.” The track was specially composed for and performed by musicians with and without disabilities from The Purple Symphony.

The musicians had to adapt to new challenges that came with performing in a professional recording studio. Watch the behind-the-scenes video of the recording of the soundtrack below.
